We sell red light devices, so the obvious answer to this question is "yes, obviously, here is a discount code." That answer is not worth your time, and if you are asking the question at all you have probably already read a dozen pages that gave it.
What follows is the version we would want if we were the ones spending the money: a clear statement of what you are actually buying, an honest account of what the evidence does and does not support, the arithmetic that makes the value question answerable, and an explicit description of the people who should not buy one. There are several such people, and we would rather they read this than return a device.
The short answer: is an at-home red light device worth it?
It depends almost entirely on whether you will use it. The devices are inexpensive per session and have a good safety record, but the human evidence base is uneven and no seller can tell you what you personally will observe. If you will use it three or more times a week for at least eight weeks, the cost is low enough that the question becomes reasonable. If you will not, it is not.

Read the bottom two rows carefully, because they are where the value question actually lives. The physics is solid. The leap from the physics to a particular product on a particular body is where the confidence should drop, and in most marketing it does not.

- Do not buy one for a specific medical concern. Vyalight devices are general wellness products. If you have a diagnosed problem, the person to talk to is a clinician, not a retailer.
- Do not buy one expecting a guaranteed outcome. No one can offer you that honestly, and the sellers who imply it are the ones to avoid.

What would change our assessment

- Independently measured irradiance becoming standard in the consumer category. If output at a stated distance were routinely published and verified, buyers could finally compare devices to studied protocols. We would like this to happen and would publish ours.
- Large, well-controlled human trials at consumer-realistic doses. Most current work is at other doses, in other settings, or in animals.
- A credible signal of harm at consumer exposure levels. None has emerged, and the favourable safety profile is doing real work in the value case. If that changed, so would our answer.

Are cheap red light devices a waste of money?
Not automatically, but cheap devices are more likely to omit a timer, omit published wavelengths, use poor straps and hinges, and carry a warranty that is difficult to claim on. Those are checkable failings. Judge on what is published and how it is built rather than on price alone.
Do home devices work as well as professional equipment?
Professional equipment is generally higher output, better characterised, and used under supervision. Home devices win on frequency and cost per session because they are there every day. Those are different advantages and neither cancels the other.
